Yosua 2:3

2:3 So the king of Jericho sent this order to Rahab: ¹  “Turn over ²  the men who came to you ³  – the ones who came to your house ⁴  – for they have come to spy on the whole land!”

Yosua 3:14

3:14 So when the people left their tents to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ⁵  ahead of them.

Yosua 9:12-13

9:12 This bread of ours was warm when we packed it in our homes the day we started out to meet you, ⁶  but now it is dry and hard. ⁷  9:13 These wineskins we filled were brand new, but look how they have ripped. Our clothes and sandals have worn out because it has been a very long journey.”

Yosua 17:5

17:5 Manasseh was allotted ten shares of land, ⁸  in addition to the land of Gilead and Bashan east of the Jordan,

[2:3]  ² tn Heb “bring out.”

[2:3]  ³ tn The idiom “come to” (בוֹא אֶל, bo’ ’el) probably has sexual connotations here, as it often does elsewhere when a man “comes to” a woman. If so, the phrase could be translated “your clients.” The instructions reflect Rahab’s perspective as to the identity of the men.

[2:3]  ⁴ tn The words “the ones who came to your house” (Heb “who came to your house”) may be a euphemistic scribal addition designed to blur the sexual connotation of the preceding words.

[3:14]  ⁵ tn The verb, though not in the Hebrew, is added for clarification.

[9:12]  ⁶ tn Heb “in the day we went out to come to you.”

[9:12]  ⁷ tn Or “moldy.”

[17:5]  ⁸ tn Heb “and the allotted portions of Manasseh fell out ten.”
